Napapijri and Alberto Tomba present a new documentary

Just before the screening of the documentary, Alberto Tomba spoke in conversation with Tommaso Cassissa about the making of the project and the impact it has had on the world of Italian sport. Tomba and Cassissa delved into the conversation, ranging from the role of social media in today’s sports communication to the national icon status of the former alpine skier, reflecting on the future of Italian skiing. Tomba’s story defies the narrative conventions of the genre; it’s intimate, authentic, and compelling. But the bond between the brand and the former skier goes beyond an emotional connection. In fact, in 1987, as Napapijri was coming to life, Alberto Tomba won his first World Cup in Sestriere, marking the beginning of his career. Two parallel lines whose point of intersection was sudden and unexpected.

Shortly before winning Olympic gold in Calgary, Tomba established a 1.14-second lead, and it is from this time that the documentary takes its title. That time frame represents the seemingly impenetrable wall between expectation and reality. Through a blend of archival footage and never-before-seen interviews, the docufilm unveils all facets of its protagonist — a man of enviable discipline and fierce passion. On one hand, we see the athletic side, that of the Italian champion; on the other, '1.14' highlights the man «condemned to win.» By getting involved in this project, Napapijri once again demonstrates its desire to explore new creative horizons and to give voice to human stories that celebrate universal values such as courage and authenticity.
